Crawling out of a pandemic and worrying about the economy and how much it’s going to cost me and whether I will be able to afford to continue in the vein I have become accustomed to and along comes Vladimir Putin determined to fuck up everything even more.

Jeez, somebody give the prat a reality check. I did suggest a 9mm aspirin might be useful but a few people found that to be rather alarming. So, perhaps I’ll downgrade to a chill pill or something.

I mean, what the fuck? There’s lots of “information” out there ranging from power hungry megalomaniac with dreams of empire, to ‘roid rage due to cancer treatment and general insanity caused by too many breakfast donuts (don’t ask where that came from.) Whatever the reason for the latest insanity he needs to back off and rethink. Plus of course, the western world politicians need to grow a pair and stand up to the man with a bit more determination and strength than “we’re going to sanction you and your friends.” Ooooooh that’ll put the fear of god into him. Oh wait….

Reminds me somewhat of a sketch in Team America: World Police. The one where the UN representative threatens the dictator with an “angry letter” before being fed to a shark.

That’s about right for the UN. Except of course at those moments when it is financially prudent for them to obey their paymasters. It’s surprising when you look at how many times the UN and by an aside NATO have got involved in conflicts that are nothing to do with Europe and now, when a friendly nation is attacked, savagely attacked what do they do?

Precisely…

I was quite happily wallowing in my own self-pity before all this kicked off. Feeling sorry for my situation where prices were climbing, costs of living were climbing and I will be entering the fifth year of no increase in income with hope of improving that. Then poof, Putin decides he really is suffering from Napoleon/Macron small man syndrome and starts swinging his dick around bombing the crap out of his neighbour. You’d think in all his years of corrupting every greedy grasping individual in the west that he would have figured out the better way to get what you want is to just buy it. Hell, it’s working fine for China. Just look at the UK these days, China owns more of the United Kingdom than the Queen. Well, maybe not more, but getting there. Russia similarly has been buying England by the pound and has a large investment here. A couple more years and there wouldn’t be a need for a UK Parliament, we could just not bother to vote and let our new masters tell us all what to do.

Instead, old Pooty throws a toddler tantrum, throws his toys out of the pram and goes into full embolism meltdown. What a twat! He was so close to achieving his aims of Empire without having to fire a single bloody shot.

Maybe he’s jealous because we have all those captured alien spacecraft and things here in the west?

Watching the news and reading newspapers, it’s becoming more and more plain that he is poking NATO, the UN and the EU with a big sharp stick and daring anyone to say “enough” They won’t of course, they’re all terrified of the consequences. And yet, Ukraine, with ancient equipment, much of it ex-soviet from the end of the cold war have given the Russian bear and hard smack on it’s nose and drawn blood. “Gone in three days” was one of the thoughts I stumbled across from a talking head “expert.” Two weeks later and they’re still giving the Russians a hard time.

Well done Ukraine. Congratulations on having the courage of your convictions and pride enough in yourselves and your country to do what the west is too cowardly to do.

I kind of understand to be honest. Russia is not a small nation with a small military and barely any training. It’s a big nation with a big military and (sharp intake of breath) – nukes. Our heroic little trouser stuffers posing as politicians and diplomats can’t bully a nation equal to them, just smaller nations.

I’m not trying to encourage a breakout into global conflict, but it is rather obvious that Putin is doing what he’s doing because he fervently believes he can get away with it. Economic sanctions don’t effect the god emperor of Russia, just the people, and why would he give a shit about them? He’s Emperor for life, in his little world he is God. With a click of his fingers he can have anyone disappeared – just look at what he did yesterday – head and deputy head of the FSB. The only thing he will pay attention to now, is strength.

The Courage to uphold the rights of individuals to determine their own fate and future. The Strength to uphold the right of a sovereign nation to determine it’s own fate and future. The Will to stand up and defend those rights from all and any who would seek to remove them.

Now, can you think of anyone in our current crop of leaders and advisers who can stand to that? No, neither can I. This time it isn’t a bunch of ill-equipped radicals running around in sandals and black robes, this time it’s a first world nation with a (mostly) trained military. And the yellow streaks running up the backs of our erstwhile leaders are glowing brightly.

Suddenly the things that were bothering me don’t matter. There is something much more important – and much more dangerous – loose in the world that makes my little problems seem very, very insignificant by comparison.

It is just such a terrible shame that a friendly, developing nation is now finding out that it’s so-called friends are a bunch of useless cowards scared of their own shadows and terrified that their so precious expense accounts might take a hit if they stand up for all those things they claim to represent and love.

Glory to Ukraine!

And I am so sorry you have been abandoned by the only people who could stop Putin in his tracks. If only they had the guts.

Well, what fun this year is turning out to be.
