Bloody chip shortages….

Two years ago, just about, a game I had been eagerly awaiting arrived on my doorstep. Super excited I nagged at the wife how I wanted to get a new X-Box. Okay she says, but let’s wait until Christmas and see what packages are released. Seems reasonable, so I agreed.

Come Christmas though there’s a pandemic raging causing problems with delivery lines and suchlike. Plus, people panic buying meant that pretty much every Series X, X-Box in the UK was purchased by somebody including a bunch of greedy fucknuggets who were selling them at vastly inflated prices on EBay. I saw one for sale at 1200 ukp. Bloody ridiculous but I have no doubt some idiot paid that. Finally, by some miracle the wife managed to snag one at Argos this Christmas (2021) and she placed it in my sweaty eager little paws with a big grin.

Finally….

Oh, yeah, finally. Hah!!!

As I only have three or four games on the system drive at most, and everything else on external drives I didn’t worry too much about having to reinstall a couple games. Hrrm. So, set up the X-Box after installing a wall mount and bits, turn on and wait for hours while it went through not only the install routine, but a bunch of fairly large updates. Ignoring Division 2 and Breakpoint I figured the new game was more important, so I set off the install for Cyberpunk 2077 which spans 2dvds – followed by a massive update, followed by two smaller updates. Unfortunately, as the XBox connected for updates to CP2077, it found a whole bunch of updates for other games. Who knew that every company on the planet was going to update their game for Christmas??? 4 days it took. Four days. Yes I could have played the game while the updates were installing but who wants to lose bandwidth and associated system resources when playing a know resource hungry game?

My wife of course found this all highly entertaining and amusing. Then we had a small family crisis with my mother falling ill and having to be taken to hospital. Thankfully she recovered and was home three days later but that was a worry, and of course the running around getting things ready, cleaning the house, trying to convince the hospital to let us visit her (not allowed of course)… and onwards into darkness.

Eventually, over half the way through January 2022, I was finally able to play the game.

While the game is excellent, and I’ve been having a whole lot of fun playing it, I can’t make up my mind whether I’m excited to finally play the game, or massively irritated that it took so long.

Whatever, the game is excellent and everything I hoped it would be. I am rather surprised at the x-rated stuff that goes on in the game. Did not expect that. Was a teeny bit embarassing when my wife asked what all the grunting and huffing was about and I explained that I was banging a nomad in a hover tank. I honestly didn’t know my wife’s eyebrows could go that high. Her only response to that was “Really?…” Thankfully another nomad tribe attacked at that moment and saved my bacon. Literally. Still, having a blast with the game, and thoroughly enjoying it. I have taken the step of limiting the amount of time I spend playing the game as the first session was almost a complete two days and I was pretty tired by the time I actually got away from the story missions (which all seem to run into each other).

So, final verdict. Loving the new X-Box X, absolutely loving the Cyberpunk game, and my wife doesn’t have to put up with me complaining about having a game I can’t play – so she’s happy too.

I dunno, new xbox, 3D Printer, who can ask for more?

Lovin’ life at the moment, even if I am in debt up to my neck.

About Questor

Yeah, I could waffle on about nothing at all here and tell you a bunch of stuff about myself, but why bore you all? I am who I am, I write as I talk as I think. Take me as I am, or don't. It's all fine. Basically, I old enough to know better, and young enough not to give a damn. Happily married, with children (almost grown now) and doing well for themselves. Policy in life? Take what fun you can, help others when you can, it all ends too quickly, and sometimes when you least expect it.
